Firefighters performed a delicate rescue of a woman after she fell down a steep cliff in Black Rock on Friday night, June 28.

Crews were called to the incident on Beach Road just before 5pm. MFB firefighters arrived on scene to find the woman 20 metres down a 30 metre cliff, on a 10 degree angle, and lying on a very small ledge.

Appearing conscious, however injured, a delicate rescue was required and the response was escalated to include the MFB’s specialist High Angle Rescue Team.

The MFB’s Fire Boat was despatched from South Wharf to provide lighting at the rescue incident.  Victoria Police also dispatched their vessel and helicopter to survey the scene.

The MFB’s High Angle Rescue Team exited over the cliff edge to the patient, securing her safely into a purpose built stretcher and lowering her to the small beach area below.  Paramedics were waiting to tend to the patient.

The patient was soon after transported by the police boat to a nearby boat ramp and met by an ambulance that transported her to the Alfred Hospital.

Eleven MFB appliances and 30 firefighters attended the scene.
